She was born December 3, 1933 at Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Verona (Roberts) Johnston. She was united in marriage with Roger K. Hartman on August 15, 1951 in Lancaster, Missouri. Martha graduated from West High School, Waterloo, in 1952. She worked for 27 years as industrial engineer at John Deere, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Hudson Amvets Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Roger K. Hartman of Hudson; three sons, Randall of LaPorte City; a daughter, Rhonda Hartman, Edina, Minnesota; either grandchildren, one great-grandson; three sisters, Gretchen Watson of La Habra, California, Billie Meyers, Waverly, Iowa, and LaDonne Buchan, Waterloo, Iowa; also two brothers, Allen Johnston of Lakewood, California, and Kent Johnston, of Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Richard, and a sister, Patty Keiffer. Memorial services will be held today (Wednesday) at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Judson with Pastor Fred Tessmer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, with Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo in charge of arrangements. There was no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
