Fox on December 29, 1897 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Imogene, Iowa. _______________________________________ Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), March 13, 1947, p. 1, cols. 1 & 2 Mrs. Martha Fox Long-Time Resident of Center Succumbs Mrs. Martha Fox, 74, a resident of Center township for 58 years, died at her home Friday morning, March 7, following an illness of two years and four months. Her death was attributed to a heart ailment. She was the widow of John T. Fox who died October 23, 1943. Survivors include six sons, Earl, Leo and Arthur at home, Virgil of Ulysses, Jerome of Pueblo, Colo., and Donald of Omaha; one daughter, Elizabeth, at home; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. E. J. Dworak of David City, and Mrs. Amy Printy of Chattanooga, Tenn. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McGargill, Mrs. Fox was born August 14, 1872, at Cascade, Iowa. She lived there and at Imogene, Iowa, until shortly after her marriage to John Fox on December 29, 1897, when she came to Center township to assist her husband in establishing a home. A life long member of the Catholic church she was actively identified with the St. Francis church during her long residence in that parish. She was also a Charter member of St. Francis Altar Society. It was St. Francis church that funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. Joseph Plewa celebrated Solemn Requiem Mass, assisted by Rev. William Murphy as sub-deacon, and Rev. Maurice Downey of Ulysses as master of ceremonies. Rev. John F. Hennessy of Sutton delivered the sermon. Present in the sanctuary were Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. J. Klein of Brainard, and Rev. Thomas Borden of Tecumseh. The church choir with Mrs. Henry Vandenburg as organist furnished the music. Serving as pallbearers were Frank Aerts, Con Danaher, Henry Dehner, W. W. Lanspa, Theodore Rutten and Rudolph Svoboda. Honorary pallbearers were LOuis Bruner, Frank Brabec, Jr., Jos Farrell, Joe Hottovy, Anthony Lettellier, Henry Vandenburg, Lou Zegers, and William Zegers. Coming from away to the services were: Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Fox of Pueblo, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fox of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Fox of Ulysses; Mrs. L. McGargill, Mrs. Steve Narke, Leland and Donald McGargill, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Melady, Mr. and Mrs. Frank O'Malley, and John O'Malley and daughters, Patty Jean of Omaha; Miss Mary Beringer of Sutton; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jacobs of Columbus; Mrs. Harold Sanderson of Fremont; and from Iowa, Mrs. Fannie McGargill, Mr. and Mrs. Edward McGargill, Mrs. Lew Maher, Tom Connors, Bernie Laughlin and William and Rose Rogers of Imogene; Mrs Ira M. WIlliams, and Mr. and Mrs. John Maher of Shenandoah; Mr. and Mrs. John Chandler of Essex; and Mrs. E. R. McDonnell and daughters, Ninette and Joan of Council Bluffs.
