Martha "Martie" Kremmerer was born on Dec. 12, 1925, in Boone, the daughter of Alvin and Henretta (Upton) Ericson. She received her education in the Boone school system, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boone. After completing her education, she worked for several years for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Boone. She was united in marriage to William Dean Kemmerer on April 14, 1952, in Boone. After their marriage they moved to Clear Lake where she continued to work for several years as a telephone operator for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City. On Nov. 12, 1960, together they purchased Witkes Marine in Clear Lake which they operated for six years as Kemmerer Marine and then owned and operated Kemmerer Marine on Highway 18. She enjoyed traveling and helping family and friends, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dean Kemmerer of Clear Lake; two sons, Mark Kemmerer and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake, and Kurtis Kemmerer and his wife, Suzanne, of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Nichole and Christopher Kemmerer, both of Clear Lake; two sisters, Grace Wilhite and her husband, Don, of Moingona and Karen Peterson and her husband, Pete, of Ogden; one brother, Garreth "Bud" Erickson and his wife, Delores, of Denver, Colo.; and other relatives and many friends.
