Martha Maria Johanna Lubben was born on February 17, 1924, the daughter of John Lubben and Eva Wendt Lubben. Jo, as she preferred to be called, was one of eight children of John and Eva, raised during the Great Depression in a small three-bedroom home in Le Mars, Iowa. Jo graduated from Le Mars High School. She served in the United States Navy during the Second World War, handling personnel and payroll in Jacksonville, Florida. Following graduation from the University of Colorado, she taught English and Theatre Arts in many small towns in Iowa. Jo was in administration at U-Haul in Denver, Colorado, in its infancy. She transferred to U-Haul on Long Island, New York, and was later promoted to the parent company, Amerco, Phoenix, Arizona, where she was Director of Human Services. She moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, to be in close contact with her niece in her later years and was a resident of Good Samaritan Emaeus Road. She loved traveling and with friends, she ventured to many parts of the globe. Jo also loved theatre, music and art. She passed away peacefully on November 8, 2011, with her niece by her side singing patriotic songs to her as she went to join her parents in the arms of Jesus. Jo was preceded in death by her father, John Lubben; mother, Eva Lubben, sister, Rosina Ritter, and brother, Arthur Lubben. She is survived by brothers Harm Lubben and Stanley Lubben, and sisters, Bernice Sitzman, Audrey Jacobsens, and Hester Thoms. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
