Funeral services were held Sunday, July 12, at the Presbyterian church in Walnut. Interment was in Walnut cemetery. Read More	Mrs. Peterson, 74, Dies Here; Buried Sunday Mrs. John Paterson, 74, died at her home in Walnut last Friday morning, July 10, after an illness of almost a year. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 12, at the Presbyterian church in Walnut. Interment was in Walnut cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernest Osler, Ralph Zimmerman, Max Smith, Will Smith, Elmer Paterson and Jake Martin. Mrs. Martha Mathilda Paterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Smith, was born on May 11, 1879, at Useh, Germany. She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of 13, locating at Griswold. On January 1, 1901, she was united in marriage to John Paterson. To this union four children were born, one of whom (Ronald) died in infancy. In the year of 1911, the family moved to Alberta, Canada. Seven years later, in 1918, they returned to the States and located at Omaha, Neb. At this time Mrs. Paterson united with the Florence Presbyterian church. In 1939, Mr. and Mrs. Paterson again returned to Canada where they remained until 1946. Since that date, they have made their home in Walnut. On September 26, 1948, Mrs. Paterson transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of Walnut and, as long as her health permitted, was faithful in attendance. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, John, one daughter, Mrs. James Zimmerman of Walnut; two sons, Frank of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Gordon of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; an adopted son, Charles, of Carstairs, Alberta, Canada; four brothers, Paul, Will and Albert of Griswold, and Max of Oakland; two sisters, Mrs. George Reineke of Griswold, and Mrs. Albert Peterson of Atlantic, one sister, Mrs. James Martin of Saskatchewan, Canada, having preceded her in death. She also leaves to mourn six grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of other near relatives and friends. Mrs. Paterson loved her home and family and the visits of friends remained a constant delight to her although she had been in failing health for the past year and largely confined to her home. Very recently her condition became critical. Out-of-town persons attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Paterson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Gordon Paterson of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and other relatives from Omaha, Griswold, Oakland, Atlantic, Orient, and Lewis.
