Blatchford Bentz, 87, of East Liverpool went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born in East Liverpool on Oct. 1, 1931, Martha was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1949, and was a member of the former First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, moderator and treasurer. Blatchford Bentz, 87, of East Liverpool went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born in East Liverpool on Oct. 1, 1931, Martha was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1949, and was a member of the former First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, moderator and treasurer. Martha was a founding Board member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and involved in the acquisition of the property on East Fourth Street where the Clock Tower was constructed between 1986 and 1992. She served on the board of trustees from the beginning and was a life member of the Association along with the organization’s Spirit Club. Over the years she performed a great deal of volunteer work for the ELHSAA and was recognized as a Trustee Emeritus in 2016. Martha was also a member of the East Liverpool Calcutta Garden Club, and was actively involved in organizing the East Liverpool Community Prayer Breakfast. Martha retired from GMP office in East Liverpool after 33 years of service. Martha was preceded in death by her father William P. Toland; mother Almira D. (Rough) Ward stepfather, whom raised her, J. Earl Ward and three brothers William Toland, Paul W. Ward and Edgar E. Ward. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, whom she married Jan. 10, 1992, Francis “Buck” Bentz; five sons Richard P. “Dick” Blatchford and his wife Sheila of East Liverpool, Robert E. Blatchford and his wife Lori of Jacksonville, Ark., Dave Bentz of Knoxville, Tenn., Bob Bentz of Knoxville, Tenn. and Michael Bentz and his wife Nancy of Stuart, Fla.; seven grandchildren Marc A. Blatchford, PhD of Pacifica, Calif., Scott M. Blatchford and his wife Marta of McKees Rocks, Pa., Jennifer Blatchford of Austin, Ark., Melissa Tarkington of Little Rock, Ark., Robert W. Blatchford and his wife Robin of East End, Ark., Amy Bentz of Hawaii and Bradley Bentz of Boston, Mass. and nine great grandchildren Hunter Smith, Alyssa Blatchford, Kaden Carnes, Mason Blatchford, Ethan Alarcon, Lindsay Alarcon, Tristan Tarkington, Makayla Clark and Lynlee Blatchford. Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present Monday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Pastor James Equels of Fredericktown Christian Church will conduct a funeral service Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be directed in Martha’s name to East Liverpool Alumni Association, 216 E.
