Description	:	Martha Wells Brunk was a midwife. She rode side-saddle on a little bay mare, her black satchel on her arm. This was an image long-remembered by the older residents of the county. She came to be called 'Granny' by all. The perils of her lonely rides even included an attack on her mare by two stallions, which she fought off with her satchel until rescued by a neighbor.
