In 1883, Martin, his mother Andrea and his siblings joined his father Lars Thoger Jensen in Cloud County, Kansas. In April of 1886, the family came by covered wagon to Banner County, in Western Nebraska along with the families of Lars Olsen, Olaf Schwartz, and Peter Nelson, to homestead west of Harrisburg.
