Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Martin was born April 4, 1922, to Philip and Katharina (Segmiller) Ehli in Mohall. He had four brothers, Joe, Jack, John and Frank and three sisters, Sally, Lizzie and Rose. Martin’s mother passed away in 1927 and his father later married Theresa Kesler. This union produced five half-siblings, Isabel, Alice, Phil, Bobbi and Richard. Also, Martin gained three stepbrothers and one stepsister, Pete, Albert, Willie and Mary Kesler. Martin was married to Billie Johnson in 1943, and to this union four children were born, Martin “Punk,” Bonnie, Terry and Jeff. Martin and his family lived and farmed in Raleigh until 1959, when the family moved to Bismarck. Martin was employed with the Bismarck Police Department as an animal control warden until 1975 when he retired. Martin was married to Mary Holmes in 1973. Along with this marriage came 10 stepchildren, LeeAnn, Rick, Daryl, Phyllis, Gayle, Mike, Raydean, Sherry, Tracy and Dee. Martin was a member of the Elks and Eagles clubs; and after his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his half-sister, Isabel, and her husband, Otto Babel. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. With all these blended families throughout his lifetime, Martin was surrounded by people who loved and cherished him. Martin will be remembered for his generous heart and fiercely independent spirit. He insisted on living in his own home until the time of his death. Martin is survived by his children, Bonnie (Jack) Werner, Terry (Connie) Ehli and Jeff (Jo) Ehli; and six grandchildren, Joe Werner, Tonya Hartman, Brandi Zacher, LaDonna Emineth, Ed Ehli and Greg Ehli. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; one son, Martin “Punk”; his parents; and many of his brothers, sisters and step-siblings. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Alexius Medical Center for their compassionate care given to Martin during his hospitalization.
