Read More	Young Man is Found Dead in Cornfield Martin Edel, Aged 22, Dies While Picking Corn on Pille Farm Death came suddenly, presumably about noon today, to Martin Edel, aged 22, son of Matthew Edel, a Haverhill blacksmith. Young Edel, employed as a corn picker by Antone Pille, on the Mrs Clara Kopel farm, one and one-half miles south of Haverhill, was found dead by his employer 12 12:30. Thinking it strange that Edel did not come in for dinner, Mr Pille, after finishing his noon day meal went to the field where Edel had been picking. He saw the team and the wagon, the horses thru a barbed wire fence, and the wagon wheels tangled in the wire. Eight rods away, into the field, lay the dead body of Edel. Mr Pille's first thought was that the team had run away and that the wagon had run over Edel. An examination by Coroner Lynn, however, did not show any marks of wheels having passed over the young man's body. The wagon box was almost completely filled with corn, and the horses could not have run fast with the load. Wednesday October 18, 1916 Marshalltown Times Republican Young Haverhill Farmer Met Death by Fall From Wagon Martin Edel, the Haverhill young man who was found dead in a corn field Wednesday, sustained a fall from his wagon, which resulted in a broken neck, was discovered after a more thorough examination had been made by Coroner A R Lynn Wednesday afternoon. The coroner said that Edel undoubtedly met his death as the result of an epileptic seizure which attacked him while he was standing on the side of the wagon. The epilepsy caused Edel to plunge forward on the ground in such a manner that a broken neck resulted. The body was removed to the Matthew Edel home Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the Catholic Church at Haverhill. Burial will be at Haverhill. Martin Edel was the fifth in a family of eight children and the first to die. He is survived by his father, Matthew Edel, six brothers and one sister. They are Joseph, Anton, John, Louis and Leo of Haverhill; Albert of Omaha and Mary at home. Thursday October 19, 1916 Marshalltown Times Republican
