Martin John Staigle was born in Mandan Feb. 24, 1936, to Walter M. and Mary (Freidig) Staigle. He was raised and educated in Center and Spearfish, S.D., graduating from Spearfish High School in 1954. On Dec. 27, 1957, he married Marlene Unterseher at Salem Lutheran Church, Stanton. Martin began his working career with his father-in-law, working at the grain elevators. In 1964 he moved his family to Sundance, Wyo., where he was employed with Big D Oil Company. In 1965 he moved with the company to Rapid City, S.D. In 1966 he moved his family to Stanton and began work with United Power Assn., where he remained until his retirement in 1996. After he retired he spent a few years residing in Arizona during the winter months. Martin was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton, Eagles Club and Elks Club. He served on several boards in the communities of Stanton and Hazen. Martin loved to read, travel, listen to music and spend time with family and friends. Martin is survived by his companion, Joyce Hoffer and her sons, Michael, Jeff and Joey; two sons, Walter (Trudy), Deland, Fla., and Robert (Nancy), Jamestown; three daughters, Charmayne Leinius (Randy), Center, Patricia Wilkens (Blake), Hannover, and Darcy Rainey (Allen), West Palm Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Brian Wilkens (Brea), Sarah Anderson (Kris), Adam Wilkens (fiancee Amy), Rachel Leinius, Shannon Psotta, Jeremy Staigle, Brooke Wilkens, Connor Wilkens Jeffrey Psotta, Amanda DeBusk and Jessica Wilson; his great-grandson, Brayden Wilkens; his brothers, Charles, George and Tom; his sisters, Dorothy Wood, Marilyn Barnhardt, Mary Catherine Scheetz, Martha Staigle and Roslyn Henke; his mother-in-law, Irene Unterseher; his sisters-in-law, Yvonne Herda and Betty Staigle; and his brother-in-law, Darold Unterseher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marlene, in 1995; his brother, William; and his brother-in-law, Warren Wood.
