Martin Tompkins b. 3 Jul 1809 in Carter County, TN d. 2 May 1891 in Cornwall, Henry County, Illinois. Probably buried in Mineral Cemetery, Lot 30. No written records at the caretaker's office have his name, but they are incomplete. The state did not keep records then. And the stone on Lot 30 does not have his inscription. More than likely he bought the lot when his wife died in 1879, then had his brother Claudius (a bachelor) buried there in 1881. And in 1899, his children allowed his nephew Isaac's grandson to be buried there.
Married: 1) Patience, last name unknown, mother of William born abt 1830 and probably 3 unnamed children in 1840 census 2) Jane Riley, daughter of Paul Riley and Elizabeth Loughrey, mother of John Cole Tompkins and Elizabeth Owens Tompkins. Jane died in 1937 or 1847. There is a question as to whether Jane Riley and Mary Ann Riley are one and the same. 3) Mary Ann Riley, daughter of Paul Riley and Elizabeth Loughrey, mother of Susan Emma Tompkins-Lee. Died 1879 and buried in Mineral Cemetery (there is a memorial with a stone picture)
Martin and his bachelor brother Claudius were living with daughter Susan E Lee, husband Jonathan,in Mineral in 1880 census. Claudius died in 1881, buried in Mineral Cemetery with stone picture.
There were relatives of some sort in Henry County, but I would think Susan and Jonathan would have had him buried in Mineral where Mary Ann is buried, and probably the other two wives as well. It is where the Riley parents are buried.
