LEONARD, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, DEAD Martin V. Leonard, Civil war veteran, died at 6 o'clock this morning at his home, 420 Carlyle street, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by sons, John I. of California, Charles of Albia and Elmer, Harry and George of this city; daughters, Mrs. Clara Long of Pershing, and Mrs. Hester Gee of Redfield, S.D.; brothers [sic], J.W. Leonard of Henry county, Missouri, and sister, Mrs. Anna Hartley of Des Moines Mr. Leonard enlisted as a private in Company I [sic], Fifteenth Iowa infantry, October 25, 1861, and was discharged November 13, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tenn. He has made his home in this vicinity since the war, and has been a member of J.M. Tuttle post, G.A.R. for many years. Funeral announcements will be made later. --------------- "LEONARD SERVICES," From Ottumwa Courier, Friday, September 4, 1925: Funeral services for Martin V. Leonard, Civil war veteran, who died Thursday morning, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence, 420 Carlyle street, conducted by Rev. A.A. Heath of the Main Street M.E. church. Burial will be made in Shaul cemetery.
