Walter (Walt) Cure, 84, Los Banos, Calif., a former long-time Wenatchee resident and a veteran of World War I, died in Merced, Calif., Tuesday. He was born in Red Oak, Iowa, Nov. 28, 1882, and later he moved to Seattle with his parents and attended schools there. He enlisted in the Army and served overseas during World War I. Mr. Cure was at the original caucus held in Paris March 15, 1919, to form the American Legion. Following his discharge in 1919, he moved to Brewster and operated an orchard. He was one of the organizers, a charter member, and a past commander of Columbia Post, American Legion at Brewster. In 1926 he moved his family to Wenatchee. He operated an orchard at Dryden for several years. Approved by the U.S. Government as an appraiser, he was self employed in that capacity for many years. Mr. Cure was a past chef degare of Voiture 90, 40 & 8, and was well known in Legion circles throughout the state. He was a member of the 13 Club and was selected by Post 10 as its outstanding Legionnaire in 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Cure had made their home at the Columbia Hotel for many years. Last year they went to California to live near their daughter. Surviving are: his wife, Elizabeth, at home; one son, Martin Walter Cure Jr., Portland; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Woodworth, Los Banos, Calif., and Mrs. Betty Taylor, Aberdeen; a sister, Rose Hatton, Kent; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be announced at a later date by the Jones & Jones Funeral Home. M.W. "WALT" CURE Services will be conducted in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones & Jones Funeral Home, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Concluding services will follow in Wenatchee Cemetery with military honors by Wenatchee Post 10, American Legion. Arrangements are by Jones & Jones.
