"Hof" was born to Samuel ("Big Sam") and Yvonne ("Bonnie") Hofer on Christmas Eve. Marty was the youngest of seven children. His birth date was what he considered to be his first attempt at ruining his siblings good time. In the years that followed it became a rule of the house that no one could open a single Christmas present until Marty and everyone else had celebrated his birthday. His Mother lovingly baked him ANGEL FOOD cake each year - a special treat just for him, and he never had the heart to tell her he didn't care much for the cake - because he cared so much for her. That was his way, even from the start. Anyone who knew Marty, even for the shortest amount of time, would tell you he had a truly charitable heart and an absolutely infectious laugh. He found fun and humor in almost every aspect of life in general...and helped others see it, too. In his childhood years the family moved quite often and Marty learned to make friends really fast. Most of those friendships withstood the test of time. Whether they were school chums or colleagues from work, Marty leaves behind a lot of people who call him friend. In addition to numerous elementary schools, he attended Bridgeport High School before graduating from Elma High School. Throughout his life, sports were a favorite pass-time. He thoroughly enjoyed watching High School, College and Professional level Baseball, Softball, Basketball and Football (and not necessarily in that order!) He was a stellar athlete himself at both High School and College levels - He lettered in many High School Sports and went on to play football for Western Washington University. This love of sports led him to coaching many team sports in Whatcom County which included Sehome High School Football and Baseball, Western Washington University Football, Lummi High School Football, Meridian Middle School Football, and Bellingham Bull Dogs Semi-Pro Football team, along with numerous other civic youth programs. During his profession as a Licensed Realtor Marty excelled in sales and enjoyed a long career in residential real estate selling through Prudential Kelstrup Realtors. He saw many changes in how real estate transactions were completed during the course of his career and never hesitated to mentor others who were just starting in the business. His giving nature also lent itself to several charitable projects each year - Especially at Christmas time - which included gathering and delivering gifts, food and funds for local groups serving those less fortunate such as Lydia House and The Lighthouse Mission. Marty moved to Fort Collins, CO a few years ago in order to be closer to family. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Mike (Aileen) Hofer; Patty Christensen; Bob (Cindy) Hofer; Nancy Engel; Steve (Annie) Hofer. He was "Uncle Marty" to each and EVERY ONE of his FAVORITE nieces and nephews: Brittany, Scott, Lindsay, Jordan, Shannon, Roberta, Krista, Melinda, Carmen, Tim, Renee, Amanda, Veronica, Stephanie, Samantha, Jessica, Anthony, Christopher, Rosie, Emily, Joseph (and he was a GREAT Uncle, too - to these FAVORITES: Kolbie, Sam, Elijah. Sophia, Alyssa, Paige, Mason, Beckett, Mason, Teegun, Julian Mallory, Ethan, Grady and JJ. Preceded in death by his Mother "Bonnie", Father "Big Sam", and sister Marsha Hofer, Marty knew he would see them all again one day and would remind himself whenever he found himself missing them that they were "closer than ever in those moments - never too far away". He'd surely want all those remaining now to realize the same comfort in his absence. He will be interred at the family plot in Huron, South Dakota.
