Description	:	It has been said that when Marvin Alvin Wolf wasn't farming, he very probably was thinking about farming. His love for trees led him to plant and care for thousands of them over the years. He was also community minded and belonged and was active in numerous organizations in the Java area. His love for trees led him to plant and care for thousands of them over the years. He was also community minded and belonged and was active in numerous organizations in the Java area. Having served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 18, 1950, to Nov. 19, 1952, he was a long time member of the LaVern Bauer American Legion Post No. 275 of Java, which he served as commander and Americanism officer. He made and helped erect the flagpole at the Java Legion building, and also helped erect the flagpoles at the two cemeteries near Java. He served as a supervisor for the Walworth County Conservation District Board for 34 years. He was a charter member of Die Deutsche Freiheit Chapter of the Germans From Russia. He served as a Walworth County Commissioner from 1983 to 1986, was the chairman of the Java 75th Jubilee, and was a long time Java volunteer fireman. Marvin was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java where he served on the council, ushered, sang in the choir, and was part of the men's quartet. His love for tinkering resulted in the creation of a backward tractor, and artwork made from scrap metal. Marvin, who had been on dialysis for the past four years, died Thursday, Feb. 22, at MedcenterOne in Bismarck, N.D., at the age of 80. The son of Carolina (Henne) and Henry F. Wolf, Marvin was born at the hospital in Selby on May 27, 1926. He was raised on his parents' farm four miles southwest of Java and received his formal education at the Java Public School. Following his army service, he returned to his family's farm. On June 14, 1953, Marvin and Lois Ann Stangl were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. They lived on the farm until the fall of 1970 when they moved into Java. He retired from farming in 2002, and lived the remainder of his life in Java. Handy at many things, he did a lot of electrical work on the side. Family members surviving Marvin include Lois, his wife of 53 years; two daughters, Laurel (Conald) Kaiser of Tolstoy and Eleanor (George) Mundorf of Saline, Mich.; one sister, Lorraine Fiechtner of Selby; and six grandchildren. His father, on March 20, 1959, his mother on May 3, 1978, one brother, Reuben, and a sister in infancy preceded him in death. The funeral for Marvin was Monday, Feb. 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java with Pastor Susan Carr officiating. Carol Fiedler was organist and special music was by Marvin's granddaughter, Sonja Kaiser. Ushers were Clyde Bieber and Bob Seyer. Casketbearers were Dwight Helm, Steve Biel, Rick Osterday, Cliff Bieber, Ken Wolf and Oscar Fiedler Jr., all of Java, Ken Mizerny of Aberdeen and Vaughn Spiry of Selby. Burial, with military honors by the LaVern Bauer American Legion Post, was in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Lien Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.
