Description	:	A long time ago in Mahaska, Kansas, William and Bertha Brown had their 7th child and 6th son, Marvin Brown. They made the move to Montana when Marvin was less than a year old. Read More	A long time ago in Mahaska, Kansas, William and Bertha Brown had their 7th child and 6th son, Marvin Brown. They made the move to Montana when Marvin was less than a year old. They raised him on their farm about 7 miles east of Pompey’s Pillar. Marvin went to grade school in Pompey’s Pillar and then to high school at Huntley Project High School in Worden. He began his lifelong work of road construction during his high school years when he was punished for his shenanigans. His punishment was hauling all the cinders from the school furnace out to pave a path on the school grounds. Margie Chappell stole his heart. They promised to love, honor, and cherish each other. For 65 years, they stayed true to their vows. They have showed the world what love really looks like. Marvin loved and cherished Marge with every fiber of his body. Soon they started their little family. They had a daughter then a son. The family followed his company around Montana and Wyoming until settling in Casper. They lived there for several years, before moving back to Billings. When he returned to Montana, he drove an over the road truck for a few years before going back into the construction industry. He erected the draglines and shovels in Colstrip. At the end of his working years, he moved to different operations of Long Construction around Montana to erect or remodel the large gravel pit equipment. Their little family grew from just 4 of them to 20. And their extended family includes nieces, nephews, and close family friends. They were always kind and loving to all that entered their home, where they would find food on the stove and beer in the fridge. In retirement, Marvin still used his construction talents. He helped Loretta and Larry with major construction projects. Marvin knew how everything worked. He was able to design and construct whatever he needed. He worked with wood and metal equally. As he grew older, he focused on smaller wooden scroll work projects. He loved to give his projects away. Marvin loved his garden. He enjoyed planting and ditching. Weeding was left for Marge and the kids. Part of his garden magic, was starting the irrigation hoses with his hands. Marvin and his good friend and neighbor Wally always competed to see who had the first and best corn. Retirement offered an opportunity for Marvin and Marge to indulge their wanderlust. During the time traveled with their trailer, they visited 49 states. Their enjoyed all the adventures that their travels took them from Spring Break week on San Padre Island, Texas to the colorful leaves of the northeast in the fall. Marvin was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a respected and cherished role model. He was a great example of living life to the fullest. Visitation will be held from 10-1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28 at Smith Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Smith Downtown. Interment will be at Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine. A luncheon follows at the VFW in Billings Heights. Condolences for the family may be shared at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
