Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Heritage Memorial Chapel in East Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial Chapel. Marvin C. Reiman, 82, a lifelong Wenatchee Valley resident, passed away March 19, 2009, following an extended illness. Marvin was born on April 23, 1926, at Dryden, WA, to the late Emanuel and Lydia (Schorzman) Reiman. He was raised in Dryden and attended school in Dryden and later, at the Winton one-room schoolhouse. Marvin thoroughly enjoyed his childhood, where he spent many hours riding horseback over the beautiful hills of Dryden and enjoying the abundant wildlife. In 1941, Marvin moved with his parents to East Wenatchee and his parents purchased a wheat ranch on Blue Grade. In 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Marvin and a small group of men were sent to Bangor, ME and opened Dow Air Force Base, which was the first jet air force base in the United States. While stationed in Bangor, ME, he was married to his hometown sweetheart, Lovene Emerson, at the Dow Air Force Base Chapel on October 15, 1948. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to make their home in East Wenatchee. Marvin and his brother, Bill, operated the family farm, raising wheat, until Bill's passing in 1976, at which time Marvin continued to operate the wheat ranch. In 1964, Marvin and Lovene purchased a pear orchard in the Baker Flats area of East Wenatchee, where they built a home and remained for 38 years, raising all five children. Marvin was an extremely hard worker, spending most of the year farming. In the winter while the wheat was dormant, Marvin worked as a Mechanic for Leonard Evans and later, for Mission Ridge. He was a talented mechanic and loved anything with a motor, especially motorcycles and cars. Both family and friends sought Marvin's advice and it was said that he could diagnose an engine problem by listening to the car's engine. It was a common joke amongst friends, that if it rained and he couldn't work outside, he would go to town and trade cars. Marvin's love for horses continued his entire life and he was a former member of the Appleatchee Riders. Marvin rode his favorite horse, Red Devil Mac, in multiple Apple Blossom Parades. Marvin and Lovene spent several winters in Yuma, AZ, with friends and relatives from the Dryden and Quincy area. Marvin officially retired in 1988, and two years later, purchased a cabin in Plain in the Ponderosa development. During the next ten years, Marvin and Lovene divided their time between the cabin and their home in Baker Flats. While at the cabin, Marvin's love for the outdoors was once again exhibited. He spent many summers gardening, fishing at Fish Lake and exploring the mountains and back roads around Lake Wenatchee. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lovene of East Wenatchee; four daughters, Patricia and husband, Gregory Rains of East Wenatchee, Terri and husband, Doug Strecker and Jacque and husband, Mark Abplanalp, all of Colorado Springs, CO and Julie Reiman of Bellevue, WA; one son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Dee Dee Reiman of East Wenatchee; 18 grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Shoop of Guadalajara, Mexico, Katie (Matt) Dolan of Wenatchee, Zachary Rains of Seattle, Emily (Gabe) McFann, Jed Rains, David Rains and Vanessa Rains, all of East Wenatchee, Kelli (Sean) Hawkins, Darci (Andrew) Mondy, Stephen (Liz) Strecker and Caleb Strecker, all of Colorado Springs, CO, Lukas (Jen) Abplanalp of Yuma, AZ, Nathan Abplanalp, Joe Abplanalp and Michelle Abplanalp, all of Colorado Springs, CO and Mitchell Reiman, Carley Reiman and Blake Reiman, all of East Wenatchee; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Reiman; four sisters, Ann Phillips, Elsie Peters, Helen Worden and Jeanette Freed; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Strecker. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Roger Souve and the staff of Souve Family Home, Dana Tinisha and Monica, for their loving care. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, followed at 2:00 p.m. by a Celebration of his Life Service at Eastmont Presbyterian Church in East Wenatchee; a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friends who wish, may make memorial contributions to Eastmont Presbyterian Church or the charity of their choice.
