Marvin Charles Schultz was born November 11, 1918 to Otto and Clara (Siegling) Schultz at home in Buffalo Township in Spink County, S.D. He was pictured in the local newspaper as The Victory Baby born on Armistice Day 1918. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Reformed Church, which later was known as St. John's UCC Church and now the Tulare United Church. Marvin attended Redfield High School for a short time before going on to four years of Aggie School in Brookings, graduating as Captain in the ROTC. Marvin then attended Frye Aircraft School in Omaha, Neb. and became a certified aircraft mechanic before returning home to farm with his dad and his brother Gaylord. On June 25, 1947, he married Leone Voelker of Ree Heights; the couple has resided one mile east of Marvin's home place for 59 years. He spent his entire life farming until 1990, when his son Tom came home to continue the family farm. He served on the church board and Buffalo Township board. He was a Trojan Seed representative, and a 4-H leader. Marvin was a 50-year member of Zenith Lodge # 202 and OES # 148 of Tulare. He loved hunting, fishing, enjoyed the threshing days with neighbors, and in the later years became interested in photography, and always had time to visit with friends or strangers. His children and grandchildren were his Beacons of Light. Marv battled many health issues starting in 1988, and won many. He is survived by his wife Leone; five sons, Terry (Becky) of Sioux Falls, Randy (Shirley), Tom (Deb) of Tulare, Kevin of Volga, and Todd (Rebecca) of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Verlyn (Phyllis) of Hill City; a sister-in-law, Ramona Schultz of Redfield; and special nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother. Gaylord; and a niece. The Miller Press 10/31/2006
