Dove, 74, of Janesville, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003 following complications from surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on June 18,1928, in Jackson Twp, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Donald and Katherine (Jennings) Dove. He was born on June 18,1928, in Jackson Twp, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Donald and Katherine (Jennings) Dove. He graduated from the Janesville High School in 1945 and attended Iowa State University before returning home to farm with his father. He and Elaine continued farming and eventually became owners of Century Farm land once owned by his great-grandfathers in 1852. Bill and Elaine Krumwiede were married on July 1, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. Bill was baptized on October 1, 1948 at the Janesville United Methodist Church and confirmed on February 1, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Their life together is celebrated with their children and their families; Nancy and Keith Minkel of Lake Mills, Iowa; Mary and Vaughn Ver Steegt of Janesville; Kathy and Jim Purvis of Chandler, Arizona and Jerry and Mary Dove of Janesville. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and all that it offered, and shared that love with his family. Fishing and canoeing in northern Minnesota and the Boundary Waters was the source of much pleasure for all. He was also an accomplished amateur photographer and woodcarver. He was an expert woodworker and cabinet maker, an interest first developed in 8th grade. He used his skills in building furniture for his parents, his own home and his childrens' homes, as well as for many other relatives and friends. Bill described one of his handcrafted items:'' I cut the tree from our own woodland, sawed it in my sawmill, dried the wood in my kiln, and handcrafted this quilt rack according to my own design.'' Bill was an active member of his community and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, and was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville. He was a founding member of the Bremer County Cattlemen and was current president of the Northeast Iowa Woodcarvers Association. He volunteered time to the Janesville First Responders and to the local 4-H clubs as a leader and a photography project leader. He served on the board of directors for the Co-op of Hudson for 12 years and has been a Jackson Township Trustee since the 1970's. He is survived by his wife and children; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren and one sister, Eleanor Brintnall of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 10:00 A.M.. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, with Pastors Ron Bronemann and Beth Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Janesville. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter EPIC Fund, Bremwood Lutheran Children's Home or the Janesville Dollars for Scholars.
