Description	:	PURK, Marvin E 91, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Hospice of Dayton. Mr Purk was born in Champaign County July 21, 1915 to the late Frank and Cloe (Harmon) Purk. He was a seventh generation American and fifth generation Buckeye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Catherine (Helfenstien), son, Stephen, parents, and three brothers: Robert, Kenneth, and Gus. Read More	PURK, Marvin E 91, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Hospice of Dayton. Mr Purk was born in Champaign County July 21, 1915 to the late Frank and Cloe (Harmon) Purk. He was a seventh generation American and fifth generation Buckeye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Catherine (Helfenstien), son, Stephen, parents, and three brothers: Robert, Kenneth, and Gus. Marvin graduated from Johnson-St Paris High School in 1933. He was employed in the San Francisco office of the Rio Del Mar Country Club on Monterey Bay from October 1935 until December 1940; by Frigidaire Division of General Motors Corporation from February 1941 until December 1951; and by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce from December 1951 until September 1971, at which time he retired as Chief Executive Officer. He was the only Chief Executive Officer ever to retire from the Dayton Chamber. On his elevation to the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber in 1962, the Dayton Daily News stated in an editorial: "He displays a rare grasp of broad and complicated problems, and industrious and incisive mind, and a flair for getting along with people...and he is the quiet sort who gets things done." Mr Purk's hobbies in retirement were the study of French and Spanish languages and cultures, and the monitoring of the European Common Market and the North American Free Trade Agreement. He also served on the boards of the Miami Valley Regional Transit Authority and the Dayton Playhouse. He and Mrs Purk were members of Grace United Methodist Church for many years, where he also served on various boards.
