Read More	BIO written by Marvin Jungman, July 1991 Marvin G. Jungman was the 4th child and 4th son born to Mathias (Matz) Jungman and Dorthea Wilhelmina Marquardt Jungman on July 15, 1912. Our parents told us that the winter of 1911-1912 was the worst in history (even to this day), so I keep telling my wife, Mildred, I was really fortunate that the Lord did not let me be born until the following summer. Marvin married a very fine Christian young lady by the name of Mildred Collins, who just happened to be our neighbor near Van Meter. To this union 2 children were born: a son, Lester Dean Jungman and then, as most parents hope for, came a beautiful daughter, June Marie, the boy being oldest to always protect his sister. This arrangement worked out great and Dean and June brought us lots of happiness. Marvin and Mildred went into the carpentry and general building business soon after they were married. They built and lived in 4 new homes during their 53 years of married life. The 4th, where they now reside, is in Van Meter. During their married life, they bought an 80 acre farm, 2 miles west of Van Meter and farmed and carpentered there for 14 years and built a new house there in 1953. While on the farm, Marvin built Dean and June, ages 7 and 4, a little motor car called 'The Dreamboat'. This made the news in the Des Moines Register newspaper and was the first real auto with rear engine gas power. Later Marvin, with the help of Ezby Collins, bought 6 acres of open land in Van Meter where he developed the first new housing area with 14 lots available to build on. It is on record as "The Jungman Addition" to Van Meter. I want to say, too, that Mildred Jungman probably holds a record for her consistent and loyal work in the church as a teacher, beginning with small children, then up to this day, teaching the Senior Bible Class, a total of nearly 50 years of faithful church work. Marvin still enjoys working at construction and general home repair for 4 or 5 days a week at age 79. Their son, Dean, after finishing college, served on the foreign fields, first in the Peace Corps, then as a missionary to Guatemala, where he and his wife adopted our granddaughter, Shala.
