Read More	Marvin Gene Ries died July 19, 2016 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, SD, with family at his side. He was born April 29, 1925 in Childstown Township, Turner County to Jonath and Rose Ries. He joined an older sister, Ardelle, and would later welcome two younger brothers, Alan and Lemoyne. He attended country school district #93, Freeman Academy, and South Dakota State College before coming back home to help on the family farm. Upon his confession of faith, Dad was baptized by Rev. Peter Schroeder at Salem Mennonite Church of rural Freeman on October 13, 1940 where he remained a faithful, life-long member. Dad didn’t have to travel very far to find the love of his life. The neighbor girl down the road, Jane Kaufman caught his eye, and on August 17, 1950, Marvin and Jane became husband and wife at the Salem Mennonite Church with Rev. Willard Claassen officiating. They were blessed with sixty-five years and eleven months together. Mom and Dad began their marriage together on their new farm in Marion township. His love for the land was always evident. in addition, he served on various boards over the years, including school, township, and Salem Mennonite Home. in 1982, Mom and Dad moved to Freeman, where he continued to farm from town for another ten years. As he gradually approached full retirement, he enjoyed learning the game of golf, and especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren out to the golf course. He and Mom also spent countless hours attending their grandchildren’s school events and performances, something treasured to this day by his family. Marvin is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Murray and wife, Emily; Karl; daughters, lynelle and husband Steve Andal; and Susan and husband Jon Bot; nine grandchildren, Micah, Amanda, and Alexandra Ries, Michelle (Parsons) and husband Darren Bernaix, Shannon Parsons, and Kyle and wife Mary Parsons; Trevor and Matthew Andal; Kelli (Bot) and husband Brian Spader; five greatgrandchildren; one sister, Ardelle and husband Allen Schrag; and two brothers, Alan and wife Sara Ries; and Lemoyne and wife JoAnn Ries; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; two infant grandsons, Adam and Aaron Ries; and brothers and sisters-in-law Doris (Kaufman) and Bervin Sherard, Delbert and Dolores Kaufman, and Clyde and Fern Kaufman, and nieceJudith Kaufman.
