Description	:	Marvin Harmelink, age 81, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his home. Marvin Glen was born on October 5, 1940, on his family's farm near Maurice, the son of Cornie and Mina (Lammers) Harmelink. He grew up in the Maurice area and graduated from the Maurice High School. Read More	Marvin Harmelink, age 81, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his home. Marvin Glen was born on October 5, 1940, on his family's farm near Maurice, the son of Cornie and Mina (Lammers) Harmelink. He grew up in the Maurice area and graduated from the Maurice High School. He then attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years before transferring to Westmar College in Le Mars, where he completed his bachelor's degree in education. On July 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carol Norine Nyhof in Sioux Center. They lived in Forest City for a short time before making their home in Alton, where they raised their family. Marv was a gifted math teacher and his love of teaching was evident by his willingness to set aside whatever he was doing to help a student. After 37 years of teaching, Marv retired and started working for Diamond Vogel Paint in Orange City, where he drove straight truck and worked in the warehouse. One of his favorite sayings was, "we are not laughing at you, we're laughing with you." Mr. Harmelink was a member of the Alton Reformed Church. He enjoyed making memories while fishing and hunting, and looking for antiques that he often refurbished. Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years; three children, Brian Harmelink, and his wife, Terri, of New Prague, Minnesota; Keith Harmelink, and his wife, Rona, of Orange City; and Cindy Michael, of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Jessica Roses, Jason Harmelink, Aimee Harmelink, Morgan Michael, Breanna Harmelink and Carlee Harmelink; a great-grandchild, Aiden Roses; a brother and his wife, Roger and Harriet Harmelink, of Newton; a sister, Donna Harmelink, of Sioux Center; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Harmelink, of Sioux Center.
