Description	:	Marvin Henry Osterhaus, age 79, passed away peacefully at the Wilber Care Center on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2017. He was born May 5, 1938, in Axtell, Kansas, to Henry A. and Frances M. (Holthaus) Osterhaus. He was raised on a farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas, where he attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through eighth grade. He was born May 5, 1938, in Axtell, Kansas, to Henry A. and Frances M. (Holthaus) Osterhaus. He was raised on a farm north of St. Benedict, Kansas, where he attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through eighth grade. He then went to work with area farmers to help his family put food on the table. Marvin entered the Army Reserves in January 1961 and was honorably discharged in September 1966. He married Jo Ann Wassenberg on July 10, 1962, in Marysville, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 1988. To this union two children were born, Renee Ann and Wayne Gerard. Marvin, Jo Ann and their family lived in Axtell and Holton, Kansas, before moving to DeWitt in 1965 to work for Mahloch Farms, then for Wells Implement in Plymouth as a mechanic until retirement. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann; grandson, Phillip M. Winz; his parents; two brothers, Joseph in infancy and Eddie; a sister, Joann Sandmann; and two brothers-in-law, Hap Brucken and Don Eisenbarth. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Winz and husband Steve of Holdrege; his son, Wayne Osterhaus and wife Denise of DeWitt; grandsons, Michael (Chelsea) Winz of Holdrege, Greg (Chantel) Winz of Hildreth, Garrett Winz of Holdrege and Andrew Osterhaus of DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Eva Winz and Sawyer Winz; sisters, Delores Brucken, Mildred Eisenbarth, Sister Mary Immaculata, Sharon (Dick) Broxtermann and Jeanette (Elmer) Koch; brothers, Robert (Zita) Osterhaus, Dick (Mary Kay) Osterhaus, Jerry (Judy) Osterhaus, Dennis (Kathleen) Osterhaus and Hank Osterhaus; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gus Sandmann, Jim (Lou) Wassenberg and Bernadette (Dan) Taylor; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marvin chose cremation. A rosary was said prior to the funeral service at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber. The Mass of Christian Burial began at 10 a.m. Burial of the cremains followed in St. Gregory the Great Cemetery in Marysville, Kansas, at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church or to the Wilber Care Center.
