Description	:	SPEARVILLE, KS.---- Marvin J. Gleason, 84, died Tuesday, November 7,2017 at his home in Spearville. He was born November 5, 1933 at the Perkins Hospital in Spearville,Ks. the son of James Daniel and Helen (Quealy) Gleason. Gleason, 84, died Tuesday, November 7,2017 at his home in Spearville. He was born November 5, 1933 at the Perkins Hospital in Spearville,Ks. the son of James Daniel and Helen (Quealy) Gleason. He was a graduate of Spearville High School and was a farmer and cattleman all of his life. Marvin lived all but a few months of his life on the farm north of Offerle, Kansas. He was an active member of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Hodgeman County until it's closing in 1997 and then joined the St. John Catholic Church of Spearville. Marvin joined the Knights of Columbus Council 1539 while in High School and was a member of the St. Marys parish council. He was always interested in sports, playing football, baseball and bowling in his younger years. Marvin loved Hereford cattle and had a successful cow/calf operation. Attending a bull sale was a highly anticipated event year after year. He was honored with the Commercial Hereford Breeder of the year award in 1996. He served on several boards including the Hanston State Bank, Offerle Co-op, Hanston School and the Farmers Mutual Insurance Board of Windthorst. Marvin enjoyed earning the title of Life Master Bridge Player in June of 2016. On April 22,1957 he married Carolyn Konrade at St. Joseph Church in Offerle,Ks. and the joy of this union continued for over 60 years. She survives. Other survivors include his 3 children; Lynn Gleason, Dodge City,Ks., Shannon Gleason and husband Darren Korf, Hanston, Ks. and Allan Gleason, Kinsley, Ks.; a brother, James R. Gleason and wife Rosanna, Dodge City; 2 sisters, Catherine Hattrup, Kinsley , Ks. and Theresa Aistrup, Hanston, Ks.; 2 sisters-in-laws, Darlene Gleason, Dodge City,Ks. and Lucille Gleason, Wichita, Ks.; 5 grandchildren, Sarah Dickson, Katie Claussen, Noel Korf, Madison Aranda and Conner Gleason; 13 great grandchildren, Samuel , Helen, Maggie, Siobhan, Bart, Kiara Dickson; Molly, Clark, Ava, Owen Claassen; Noah and Nadia Korf and Emery Aranda. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Isaac D. Korf, a sister, Alice Marie Burkhart and 2 brothers, Thomas and Maurice Gleason. Vigil service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9,2017 at St. John Catholic Church in Spearville,Ks. Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10,2017 at the church with Fr. Jarrett Konrade presiding. Burial followed at St.Mary's Cemetery, north of Bellefont,Ks. in Hodgeman County. Memorials to St. Marys Heritage, Hospice of the Prairie or St. John Church all in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, Ks.
