Description	:	Funeral services for Marvin James Vander Molen, 73, of Peoria, who died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at his home, were held Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Special music was provided by Iris Vander Wal, pianist, Marge Fynaardt, organist, and the Peoria Men's Quartet. Interment was at the Peoria Cemetery. Marvin was born on March 29, 1930, west of Taintor, the first son born to Gerrit and Marie (Roose) Vander Molen. He attended Peoria Christian Grade School and Pella Christian High School, graduating in 1947. After working with his father on the farm for four years, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He married Gladys Veldhuizen on Sept. 26, 1952. After 30 days of marriage, Marvin left for Japan to serve 18 months as a radio operator at Brady Air Force Base. The remainder of active service time was spent with Gladys in California where they began their family. To this union four children were born: Dennis, Gary, Byron, and Brenda. After returning to Iowa in 1956, they farmed in the Lynnville, Peoria, and Taintor area until his retirement in 1992. He then helped Byron on the farm until his health failed. He was a lifelong member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Music was his lifelong passion. He enjoyed singing in quartets, church choirs, Gospel Singers Male Chorus, as well as singing the Dutch Psalms. He shared his faith through music by singing and playing his guitar and harmonica at various events. Marvin and his daughter, Brenda, also sang together for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He loved to travel and talk with people everywhere. From an early age, aviation intrigued Marvin. He was a pilot of single engine aircraft for many years. He had been a member of Farm Bureau, School Board, American Legion, and Farmers Coop and in recent years was the Township Clerk. His retirement years were spent in his shop, working on tractors and restoring those he had used on the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ryan; father-in-law, Jacob Veldhuizen; and brother-in-law, Leonard Veldhuizen. He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Peoria; three sons and their wives, Dennis and Linda of Clinton, Miss., Gary and Barbara of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Byron and Carla of Lynnville; a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Jim Sperr of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Rachel Vander Molen of Peoria; mother-in-law, Marie Veldhuizen; and in-laws, Henry and Alma Veldhuizen, Henrietta Veldhuizen, and Geraldine Dykhuis. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella or Pella Christian High School.
