A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home,Mandan, with the Rev. Darrell Aleson officiating. There is no visitation. Marvin was born April 22, 1923, at New Salem, N.D., to Herman and Erma (Bauer) Wilkens. He was raised and educated in New Salem. M.J. retired from a career with the USDA Department of the Federal Government as an administrative operations analyst after 30 years of service. He received many awards for excellence and merit. The Exemplary Service Award was given to M.J. for his dedication to high professional standards and commitment to agency improvements. He headed many special assignments, and did extensive travel to Washington D.C., while a member of the Washington Field Office Administrative Task Force. M.J. was very proud of his production of an outstanding 16 MM color film titled "Exploring North Dakota and its Agriculture". For his efforts he received a certificate of merit. This film was shown many times throughout North Dakota and other Midwestern states. The original copy of the film was filed in the Walt Disney Library of State Travelogues. M.J. loved the outdoors. He built a lake home on Lake Tschida for his family to enjoy, and later built his retirement home on Cotton Lake, Rochert, Minn. M.J. really enjoyed watching the Twins baseball games and a good western movie. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and stamp and coin collecting. His grandson Josh was his pride and joy, he so loved spending time him. He loved talking about him to his friends and telling them all about Josh's many adventures and accomplishments. He is survived by one daughter, Candice Seerup, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Dick Pestotnk, Boone, Iowa; his former wife, Clara Wilkens, Bismarck; and his grandson, Josh T. Seerup, Goldendale, Wash. M.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Erma Wilkens; his infant sister, Betty Jane; and his brother-in-law, Don Johnson.
