Military rites will be conducted by the Anton Bokemper Wakefield American Legion Post #81. Marvin was born on June 23, 1929 on the farm outside of Concord, the son of Wilhelm Carl and Judith Anna (Holm) Borg. He attended Myrtle Creek Country School. In 1947 he graduated from Wakefield High School. Marvin entered the United States Army on July 7, 1951, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on July 10, 1953. He took military training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and left for overseas assignment on February 1952, landing in Yokahama, Japan. They went by rail to the southern part at Camp Gifu and took CBR(Chemical, Biological and Radiological training). Then on to Sasbo, Japan and boarded a ship to go onto Pusan, Korea (no lights, no smoking, and slept on rice mats). Marvin ended up in the 724th Transportation Battalion, a railroad outfit. He had a Railroad Pass and traveled all over Korea, often by himself, and did carpenter work wherever he landed. As a Corporal, he served overseas on the General NM Walker Ship. Marvin was awarded a Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and a United Nations Service Medal. He returned to California in June of 1953. He often recalled the shouts that went up when going under the Golden Gate Bridge. Marvin returned to the family farm as the 4th generation of Borg farmers. On June 6, 1956, Marvin was married to Lois B. Erickson at the Evangelical Covenant Church. Four sons, Terry, Lyle, Mark and Joey grew up on the farm and all continue to farm in the area. Marvin said of farming all his life "Wouldn't trade it for anything." The farm received the Pioneer Farm Award in 1984. On March 1, 2009, the farm celebrated 125 years. He started selling Stormor bins in 1960. The first one, a 1350 bushel bin was sold to his father-in-law for $350. He also sold Funks Seeds for many years. Marvin served on the Rural Myrtle Creek School Board, the Wakefield School Board, and was very involved in getting the current High School building bonded and built. He was also instrumental in the building of the current ESU #1. Marvin served on the Church Boards, Community Club Board, Wakefield Community Foundation, Concord Township Board, leaders of 4-H Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Marin is survived by his wife Lois of 54 years, four sons and their spouses: Terry and Debbie, Lyle and Karen, Mark and Angie, Joey and Iris, ten grandchildren, a sister Elvera Borg, and his nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William Eugene, a sister Virginia Ann Bergeson, and three grandchildren Joshua, Ryan and Sidney Jo Borg.
