Marvin was born May 16, 1919 in Tripp County, South Dakota to John and Emma (Wainscott) Karmann. He moved with his family to Stanton County, NE at the age of 8 and grew up in that area. Karmann, 96 years, of Fremont, NE died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Premier Estates in Fremont. Marvin was born May 16, 1919 in Tripp County, South Dakota to John and Emma (Wainscott) Karmann. He moved with his family to Stanton County, NE at the age of 8 and grew up in that area. He worked on area farms then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1938. Marvin served during WWII in the Army Air Corps from April 25, 1942 to December 19, 1945. He was one of five brothers who served in the military during WWII. Marvin married Eileen C. Jackson on November 20, 1945 at Nebraska City, NE. The couple lived in Nebraska City until moving to Fremont in 1950. Marvin worked as a mechanic at the former Grant Chevrolet, Nick Neff Motors and Al Pimper Motors in Fremont. In 1965, Marvin began his employment at Valmont Industries in Valley, NE until retiring in 1984. Marvin was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, former president of St. Patrick's Parish Council and the Home and School Association at Bergan High School and member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1497. He was a charter member and first secretary of St. Patrick's Credit Union. He was a member of American Legion Post #20, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 and the Starlighters Square Dance Club all in Fremont. Alcoholics Anonymous became an important part of his life. He received his 49 year chip in October. He is survived by wife, Eileen; daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Gilsdorf of Omaha; sons, Gary Karmann and Steven (Linda) Karmann all of Omaha, Richard Karmann of Fremont,Kenneth (LeAnn) Karmann of Omaha, NE, Gregory (Cathy) Karmann and Christopher Karmann all of Fremont; son-in-law, Roger McCabe of Omaha; brothers, Byron Karmann of Omaha and Delbert Karmann of Powell, Wyoming; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia McCabe; sister, Katherine Prokopec, Della Beebe and Maxine Gaydosh. and brothers, John, Jr., Ernest, Edwin and Glen Karmann. Funeral Mass 10 AM; Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Father Ronald Battiato will officiate. Visitation on Monday from 4-8 PM and with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 PM on Monday, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation at church on Tuesday 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or to Fremont Health Hospice. (mosermemorialchapel.com/obituary)
