Whitey was born November 18, 1940, in Portsmouth, Iowa, to the late Lawrence and Eva (Leinen) Gubbels. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. Whitey married Judy K. Medical Center, in Omaha, Neb. Whitey was born November 18, 1940, in Portsmouth, Iowa, to the late Lawrence and Eva (Leinen) Gubbels. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. Whitey married Judy K. Porter on July 2, 1966. They were blessed with two sons, Troy and William. Whitey worked as a car foreman in the railroad industry for 40+ years. He loved to dance, play cards and fish. In addition to his parents, Whitey was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Gerald “Jerry” Gubbels. Whitey is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy K. Gubbels; sons, Troy (Deborah Hunter) Gubbels, William (Tammy) Gubbels, all of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Ashley, Katrina, Dillon, Jacob and Makayla; great-grand-daughter, Hannah; brothers, Vernon (Carol) Gubbels, of Yankton, S.D., Lawrence “Joe” (Joan) Gubbels, of Council Bluffs; sister, Dorothy (Kenny) Arkfeld, of Defiance, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Rita Gubbels, of Council Bluffs, Carol Gubbels, of Avoca, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family, Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service, Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Harlan, Iowa Cemetery, at 12 p.m. Military rites will be tendered by the Harlan, Iowa American Legion Honor Guard. A lunch will follow at St. Michael’s Rosman Parish Center. The family will direct memorial contributions.
