Description	:	Marvin Milton Scholten, son of William and Jennie (VandenHoek) Scholten was born November 23, 1923 in Corsica, SD. Marvin died Friday, October 19, 2007 at the age of 83. He served during WWII in the Army and used the GI Bill for his education, earning a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Minnesota, and his Master's degree in History and Government and his PH D in School Administration from the University of South Dakota. Marvin worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools and retired as a Professor of Education at SDSU. He served many years on the Brookings School Board and helped to develop the first adult education program for the state of South Dakota. His passion was school law, school finance and law related education. He was a strong supporter of public education for all and often testified in court supporting teacher's rights. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. Marvin married Evelyn Kuyper on May 27, 1948. Marvin is survived by his wife Evelyn of Brookings, SD; two sons Bill (Lisa) Scholten of Brookings, SD, Marc Scholten of Juneau, Alaska; two daughter's, June Ellman of Charlottesville, Virginia, Judy Scholten (Justin Poland) of Bangor, Maine; one brother Floyd (Shirley) Scholten of Montrose, SD; and one sister Kathleen (James) VanDyke of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Alex (Christy Ann Pulse) Ellman and Christina (Sean) Walter both of Sioux Falls, Angela (Sonny) Rasmussen of Clearwater, Florida and Kati Scholten of Brookings; five great grandchildren, Alex, Arianna and Ethan Walter of Sioux Falls, Ashton and Ella Rasmussen of Clearwater, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and Tony Scholten. Memorials may be directed to Marvin's family for an Academic Scholarship in his name, to be presented to a Brookings High School Senior. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 22, at First United Methodist Church, Brookings, SD. Email condolences and greetings can be sent to the family through www.rudesfuneralhome.com.
