Read More	Marvin E. Nelson, age 84, of York, NE, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at York. He was born March 11, 1928 at Omaha, NE to Gothard and Martha (Lundgren) Nelson. When Marvin was two, his family moved to a farm in Polk County, NE. They moved to York when he was three where he attended York Public Schools. He was a graduate of York High School. Following 2 ½ years in the U.S. Navy, he returned to York and helped his brother run a coffee shop. Marvin was united in marriage to Vernice Senff on August 29, 1949 in North Platte, NE. Three sons, Ed, Tim, and Craig were born to this union. A nephew, Eric joined the family following the deaths of his parents. Marvin later married Gweneth Muir in Omaha on September 1, 1979. Her daughter Lisa became a part of the family. Marvin worked at JC Penneys in York, Hastings, and Lincoln. He also owned and operated Daylight Donuts in Aurora for ten years. His next move was to Red Cloud, NE where he owned and operated a cheese route business for eight years. He was forced to sell the business when he was injured in a truck/cow collision. Marvin worked at Southern Hills Golf Course in Hastings and joined the PGA, where he achieved Class A Pro standing. He moved to Fairbury, NE where he was offered the head pro job at the Fairbury Country Club. He also lived in Scottsbluff, NE and Guthrie, OK for a time, working as a golf pro at both places. Marvin returned to York to live out his retirement. He is survived by three sons, Ed (Marilyn) Nelson of Lincoln, NE, Tim (Karen) Nelson of Plattsmouth, NE, Eric (Laura) Sweeney of rural Phillips, NE; daughter, Lisa (Emmet) Barta of Hastings, NE; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Orpha Friesen of York, Pauline Smith of York, Helen (Don) Lulow of York; and daughter-in-law Ayu Perwani (Mr. C) of Bali, Indonesia. Preceding him in death were his parents, both wives, son Craig, four brothers and four sisters. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Terry Cosier officiating. Burial will be prior to the funeral at 11:00 a.m., in the Aurora City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
