He graduated from Phillips County High School in 1936 and in the spring of 1940 from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a mechanical engineering degree. "Bud" Colver, 85, of Holyoke died March 29 in Holyoke. Colver was born July 5, 1918, in Holyoke to Oliver J. and Margaret (Rowlands) Colver. He graduated from Phillips County High School in 1936 and in the spring of 1940 from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a mechanical engineering degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity in Boulder. He married Nadene Douglas in April 14, 1940, in Denver. They moved to San Diego, Calif., where he went to work for Boeing in the aircraft industry. After a month they were moved to the Boeing plant in Seattle, Wash., to work on the B-17 bomber. In 1941, he became an inspector in the U.S. Air Force at the Douglas Aircraft Co. in Long Beach, Calif. In 1944, he went into active duty in the Air Force and was discharged in 1946. After his discharge he worked for the Temple Buell architectural firm in Denver. In 1947, he and his wife returned to Holyoke to join his father in the hardware and furniture business where he worked until 1957. He became an agent for State Farm Insurance in Holyoke until his retirement in 1995. In retirement, he and his wife traveled with family and friends and spent much time on the Holyoke golf course. He also loved flying and his association with his fellow pilots. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holyoke. He served in the board of deacons, as financial secretary, Sunday school teacher, listener in the Awana program and on the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Holyoke Lions Club, a 50+-year Mason at the Holyoke Masonic Lodge and a member of the Holyoke Aviation Association. He and his wife worked with the group that delivers Meals on Wheels. Survivors include his wife; one son, of Holyoke; two daughters, of Amherst and Fort Morgan; one sister, of Holyoke; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Zeta, Ruth and Marian. Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Holyoke with Rev. Gary Jones officiating.
