Description	:	An avid golfer, Marvin R. Pfitzer became a PGA golf instructor employed by many Arizona golf resorts after growing up and living many years in the Java area. Marvin died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at the Sun Health Hospice in Sun City West, Ariz. At the age of 78. Marvin Richard Pfitzer, son of Maria (Hepper) and Matt J. Pfitzer, was born June 22, 1928 at Eureka. He grew up and was educated in Java. Marvin served his country in the U.S. Air Force following induction on May 11, 1948. He was honorably discharged May 10, 1952 and returned to the Java area. He married Betty Spiry Feb. 12, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java. The couple owned and operated the Java Red Owl store for seven years before selling it to Marvin's brother, Bob. Marvin then worked as a rural mail carrier until his retirement. In 1982 they moved to Sun City West where Marvin lived the rest of his life. It was there that he became a golf instructor. Surviving Marvin are Betty, his wife of 50 years; three children, Ivy Pfitzer, Charlotte, N.C., Gwen (Will) Walker, Kingman, Ariz., and Kent (Holly) Pfitzer, Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Chantell and Caleb; and one brother, Bob (Joyce) Pfitzer, Mobridge. Family members preceding him in death include his parents, a daughter, Lori, and four brothers, Gehbardt, Chris, Harold and Wayne.
