Description	:	Marvin W. Jones, 90, a longtime Ottumwa resident, died Oct. 6, 2011, after a brief stay at Hospice House. Born Aug. 21, 1921, in Farson to Leslie and Eva Sward Jones, after graduating from Ottumwa High School, both he and his brother, Richard, followed their dad into military service- Marvin into World War II in North Africa and Italy; Richard into both Korean and Veitnam wars. Born Aug. 21, 1921, in Farson to Leslie and Eva Sward Jones, after graduating from Ottumwa High School, both he and his brother, Richard, followed their dad into military service- Marvin into World War II in North Africa and Italy; Richard into both Korean and Veitnam wars. Marvin "Doc" Jones returned to his wife, Lois McNiel Jones, and young son after the war, working the longest time locally as a mail carrier. Although Marvin had many jobs in his life and felt none of them were "bad," he was proudest of his years in Cumberland, Wis., as a restaurant owner and that of being a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lover of animals. Besides raising his three children, Betsy of Ottumwa, Beth of new Mexico and Gary of California, he was also a "fahter" to his two grandsons, Seth Greenland(Sarah Hecker)of Batavia and Chad(Amanda)Greenland of Denver, Colo. His most recent joy was the addition to his family of a great-grandson, Emerson. His parents, brother, and wife all preceded him in death. A member of Willard Street United Methodist Church, founding member of the United Methodist Men at his church and many other organizations, he made countles volunteer trips with holiday meals and gifts of his time. His time shared with students and adults alike about World War II service was memorable. When he retired, he found it difficult to stay retired, but he ended his days of employment as a part of the South Hy-Vee family in floral delivery, a job he truly loved in his later years. His body had been cremated. Memorial services will be 3 pm Monday at Reece Funeral Home; the Rev. Charles Luers officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, Ottumwa, Iowa or Heartland Humane Society, Ottumwa, Iowa.
