Marvin attended Lacelle Country School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II - serving in England, France and Belgium. He was later united in marriage to Marjorie Marie Hopkins on March 26, 1949 at Murray, IA and three children were born to this union. Marvin was a Maintainance man for Wellman Dynamics for 19 years. He worked in C.C. Camp as a young man, John Deere in Waterloo, did farmwork and was a truck driver for Thayer Toney for many years. He was a member of William-Lochrie Post #405 American Legion in Murray. He was also an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, mushroom hunting, playing pool and cards, throwing horseshoes and croquet. He enjoyed sports events and played softball and baseball in years past. Those relatives who preceded Marvin in death were his parents; brothers, John Black and Earl Black; nephews, Gerald Black and Danny Black; daughter in infancy, Carolyn Ann Black; twin granddaughters, Toni Marie and Tammi Ann; great granddaughter, Anna Marie Stowers; sister-in-law, Berdina Black; brothers-in-law, Frank Palmer, Don Hopkins, Dean Hutcheson; and niece, Sheryl Hutcheson. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Marjorie Black of Murray; children, Marlin & Lucy Black and Marlena & Keith Mills all of Murray; grandchildren, Tina (Jeff) Stowers of Truro, Chris (Jennifer Mastin) Mills of Murray. Michael Black of West Des Moines; great grandchildren, Derrick Stowers and Wyatt Stowers of Truro, Kennedy Ann Mills and Jackilyn Mills of Murray, Cierra Mastin and Kendrick Mastin of Murray, Ricky Lee Hyde of Des Moines; sisters, Nora (Reggie) Schap of Arispe and Fern Jones of Afton; in-laws, Harry & Billie Hopkins of Grand River, Carl & Lela Hopkins of New Virginia; sisters-in-law, Jean Black of Prescott, Arletta Palmer of Murray, Mildred Hutcheson of Murray and Kathy Hopkins of Grand River as well as many other relatives and friends.
