| Description | : | The family came to the United States in 1852 from Graushorn Dithmarshen, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. They settled first in Blue Island Illinois, where Marx worked on the railroad, after a year they moved to Joliet, Illinois where Marx was engaged in the construction of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad for about two years. The family came to Clinton, Iowa in June 1855 where they bought raw prairie land and farmed. They are buried in Center Grove (Ingwersen) cemetery, south of Bryant, Iowa. |
