Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Wessling, age 92, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Dennis Wessling. Gift Bearers will be Sara Wessling, Abby Wessling, Debra Anliker, Hailee Wessling, Dorothy Kanne, and LaVonne Eich. Soloist will be Nick Wessling. Eucharistic Ministers will be Sister Darlene Wessling F.S.E. and Susan Wessling. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of America and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be Nick Wessling, David Seidl, Terry Seidl, Adam Wessling, Corey Seidl, and Tony Anliker. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Monday by the Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Wessling was born on November 3, 1916, at Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of August B. and Mary (Tigges) Meyer. She attended St. Joseph School and helped on the family farm southwest of Dedham before becoming the housekeeper for Msgr. O.W. Koester at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Mt. Carmel. On May 4, 1968, she was married to Hugo G. Wessling at Kansas City, Missouri, and the couple made their home in Carroll. In the 1970’s she received her General Educational Development Certificate and Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Parish Adult Funeral Choir, Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. For many years Mrs. Wessling baked the pastries for the St. Anthony Hospital Coffee Shop. She enjoyed her family, bowling, fishing, gardening, playing cards, and had a special knack for growing flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Wessling, on May 16, 2009; her parents; sisters, Veronica Broich, Sister Leanne Meyer F.S.P.A., Anna Wiskus, Sister Roselma Meyer F.S.P.A., Sister Rita Meyer F.S.P.A., and Leona Erps; and brothers, Frank J. Meyer and John Meyer.
