The funeral was held at her late home Friday afternoon, Oct. 3, the Rev. W. A. Warner assisted by the Rev. A. W. Barnlund officiating. The interment was at Glover. Mary A. Shannon was born in Canada in 1851. In 1881 she was married to Andrew Walcott, then a widower with three daughters and one son. A few months after their marriage she had a severe attack of rheumatic fever, followed by a stroke of paralysis, which left her in that crippled condition in which she ever after remained. But her large Christian faith, hope and trust, her courage, patience and unselfishness, coupled with a fine sense of humor, kept her spirit ever above the infirmities of the flesh, and so when friends called, instead of listening to weary complaints of hardships and deprivations endured, we were told of the mercies and blessings she had to be thankful for, some of them coming in direct answer to prayer, the kind ness of relatives and friends, perhaps sprinkled with a little spice at some droll happening. And as Mr. Warner fittingly remarked, all who came to confer a blessing always went away feeling they had received more than they brought. Her crippled limb, which could just reach the treadle of the sewing machine, and the poor twisted fingers wrought much that was beautiful and useful in the sewing line, and these same hands sent broadcast many a message of helpfulness and good cheer to relatives and friends at a distance, especially to those who had met with sickness, sorrow or misfortune. Mr. and Mrs. Walcott lived the greater part of their life together in Glover. But in 1902 they moved to Barton where they have since resided. Mrs. Walcott belonged to a large and interesting family. Three of her sisters are now living in the state of Washington, one of them, a reader of some note, having graduated from the Emerson School of Expression, Boston. There is also a brother and a sister in Helena, Montana, a sister who married Dr. Flood of Hopkinton, N. Y. and the youngest. Miss Geraldine Shannon, at the head of a large dressmaking establishment in Cleveland, O., was the only one who could be present at the funeral. Beside all these she is survived by her husband and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Hopkins and Mrs. Reuben Mason, who tenderly cared for her during her illness. We wish in this way to express our thanks to the friends who so kindly assisted us in the sickness and death of & beloved wife, mother and sister, also for the beautiful flowers.
