Description	:	Mary was the second of twelve children born to John W. and Lydia R. Richards Young. She was raised in the family home in Lincolnville, Waldo, Maine. Her father was a fisherman in the north Atlantic. In 1869 she was married to Joseph Thomas Rose. The couple moved to Nebraska and their first child was named after her brother Wilbur. Wilbur had moved to Nebraska and had homesteaded there. Many of his siblings moved to the area for different lengths of time.
