Wall Concordia Blade-Empire Concordia, Kansas Thursday, August 31, 1916 page 2 Mary Adelaide Hopkins Mary Adelaide Hopkins was born in Otego Co., New York, Feb., 8th, 1853 and was called to her Heavenly Home at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 25, 1916, aged 63 years, 6 months and 17 days. Whe she was seven years of age her parents moved to Genesee Co., New York, where she grew into womanhood and where she was united in marriage to Mr. W.H. Wall of that place on Oct. 5th, 1876. Three years later Mr. and Mrs. Wall came West locating in Jamestown, which was in it's infancy being less than a year old. Mrs. Wall made a public confession of her faith in Christ when in her teens uniting with the Presbyterian church, and through all her life she was faithful to her profession. The first Sabbath day in the new western home she and her husband joined by letter with the Congregational church of this place. A few years later the United Presbyterian church was organized and they transferred their membership to this church where they have worshipped together through the years; where their children were trained and reared Christian manhood and womanhood. Today those boys are honored Christian citizens, a living testimony to her untiring efforts. She was a charter member of the Woman's Missionary Society and for a time served as its president. In this organization she loved to serve and here the Master gave much spiritual strength. In the W.C.T.U. she was also an active member and an efficient worker. Her home was open for any branch of the Lord's work. Many, many times she has spoken words of greeting or recited some choice poem or lead us in fervent prayer to the Master's feet in our homes and public gatherings and this has been an inspiration and help to others. Mrs. Wall was the mother of five children, one a twin passing on in infancy. To her husband and children she was true and devoted, kind, patient and thoughtful and the memory of mother will ever be sweet and sacred. She leaves to mourn, her husband, two sons, Guilford and Wilbur, and two daughters, Gertrude and Grace, her grandaughter, Elsie, one sister and two brothers. In Mrs. Wall's death this church has lost one of its most faithful and consistent members. To her the church was a holy Sanctuary where she held sweet communion with her savior. She had burdens to bear and failing eyesight depressed her, but she "cast her burden on the Lord" in whom she had an abiding trust and in whom she had true comfort. For a number of years she taught a class of boys in the S.S. ever pointing out to them that "The way of the Cross leads Home." She leaves a host of friends who will ever love and cherish her memory. We shall miss her but we bow in submission, knowing that "it is well with her soul." (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
