Born in Chesnee, she was the widow of the late Roy Calvin Lawing and daughter of the late Robert Calvin Ray and Myrtle Maynor Ray. Mrs. Lawing retired from textiles, loved to read, especially her Bible, loved to eat cherry cobber, and was a member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church. Born in Chesnee, she was the widow of the late Roy Calvin Lawing and daughter of the late Robert Calvin Ray and Myrtle Maynor Ray. Mrs. Lawing retired from textiles, loved to read, especially her Bible, loved to eat cherry cobber, and was a member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving is a son, Bobby Lawing of the home; two daughters, Betty Collins and husband, Glenn, of Gaffney and Gail Dowdle and husband, DeRoy, of Simpsonville; a brother, Bennie Ray and wife, Bet, of Spartanburg; three sisters, Jeanette Rivers of Anderson, Sara Githens of Spartanburg, and Norma Ruppe and husband, Jack, of Cowpens; five grandchildren, Tammy Painter and husband, Randy, of Cowpens, Glenn (Muskie) Collins, Jr. and wife, Karen, of Moore, Christina Stepp and husband, Mike, of Simpsonville, Kim Adams and husband, Steve, of Simpsonville and Nancy Dowdle and fiancé, Christopher Burkard, of Simpsonville; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Lawrence. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Care of South Carolina and Dr. Howard Klickman. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Will Vergara and Rev. Clifford Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to: Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N.
