Description	:	MIDLAND NEWS May 04, 1994 Valentine, Cherry Co NE Mary Alice Kuhre was born to William and Anna Furrey Kuhre on their homestead very near the Niobrara River on March 28, 1904. She attended a school near their home and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, NE with the class of 1929. Read More	MIDLAND NEWS May 04, 1994 Valentine, Cherry Co NE Mary Alice Kuhre was born to William and Anna Furrey Kuhre on their homestead very near the Niobrara River on March 28, 1904. She attended a school near their home and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, NE with the class of 1929. Later she attended Chadron College and taught school for many years ending her teaching career. On May 24, 1933, Mary was united in marriage to R. J. (Jay) Phillips in Winner, SD. Two children were born to this family, Betty and Bill. Jay and Mary lived near Norden most of their married life, and later they moved to a farm north of Ainsworth. Upon retirement, they moved into Ainsworth where they lived until Jay passed away. Mary continue to live there until she entered Pine View Home. Mary was very active in community affairs which included Legion Auxiliary and treasurer for the Rebekah Lodge for many years. She belonged to Ainsworth Does, Garden Club and Reitred Teachers. Mary loved to dance, play cards and tat. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren so very much much. Mary passed away at Pine View on April 20, 1994 after making her home at Pine View for nearly ten years. She loved the staff and so appreciated all the attention they gave her during her residence there. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Nilo and his wife Ines of Ainsworth, and brother-in-law Harley McCormick of Valentine. Survivors include her son, Bill Phillips of Winner, SD, her daughter Betty Keech and son-in-law Con Keech of Valentine, her sister Willna McCormick and sister-in-law Mabel Williams both of Valentine. Also surviving are her grandchildren Bill & Sherry Phillips of Germantown, MD, Mary & Bruce Smith of Hot Springs, AK, Bob & Lisa Phillips of San Antonio, TX, Bruce Phillips in GERMANY, Brad and Jacqueline Phillips of Denver, CO., Beverly Phillips of Yankton, SD, and Chad, Shon and Shane Phillips of Winner, SD, Melanie Keech of Ft. Collins, CO and Reed and Gail Keech of Plano, TX. Her great-grandchildren include Krista, Ryan, and Nicholas Keech, Donny and Nick Kindt, and Crris, Andrew and Jared Phillips. Services were held at the Ainsworth Methodist Church with REV. Callaway and Pastors Cindy and Kelly Karges officiating. Music was provided by her soul friend at Pine View, REV. Callaway.
