Miss McGowan was born August 9, 1862, in Cedar Township, Greene County, Iowa, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McGowan. She had lived in the Dedham community a long time. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hilda McGowan, Carroll; two nieces, Mrs. Ben Galloway, Carroll, and Mrs. Irvil Jones, Jackson, Minn., and two nephews, Frank Beck, Wall Lake, and Leo Beck, Odebolt. June 12, 1959 - Carroll Daily Times - Requiem mass was offered by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. P.T. lynch at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Church here for Miss Mary McGowan, 97, who died Monday morning at the Tryon Nursing Home, 109 North Main Street, where she had lived for the last 15 years. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leo Fiedler, J.P. Cranny, John Mersman and George Danzer. Out-of-town relatives at the rites included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beck, Wall Lake: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Beck, Odebolt; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Jones, Jackson, Minn.; Mrs. Veronica Brockett, Carnarvon: Mrs. Catherine Barrett, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Paul O'Mara and Clair O'Mara, Lanesboro; Mrs. Maurice Malen and Mrs. Anna Spenla, Lohrville; Mrs. Frank Murphy and Mrs. Leonard Murphy, Boone. Other relatives who were here but not at the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Julius Wehrmann of Manning and Jim Mungon of Dunlap. Miss McGowan was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Hilda McGowan and aunt of Mrs. Ben Galloway of Carroll. She was a former longtime resident of the Dedham community.
