It appears that this family spelled their last name several different ways. In the marriage record for Mary's daughter Allie, her maiden name was spelled Yeothers, and in the marriage record for Mary's daughter Myrtle, her maiden name was spelled Yonthers. --------------- Mary and her husband, John Hetherington, were together in the 1800 Census for Reynolds, Illinois, living with three of the children, Francis, Fredrick, and Alice. It appears that John and Mary were later divorced. They are shown in the same household in the 1900 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, John Hetherington, was living with Mary and her children; however, they were divorced, and John was shown as a boarder. Both John and Mary's ages have been translated incorrectly in that census. Mary's birth date was shown as Nov. 1848, and her age was translated as 27. John's birth date was shown as Mar. 1847, and his age was translated as 68. The writing is sloppy on the actual census record, but by looking at it, I believe that their correct ages were Mary, age 51, and John, age 53. According to the "Ottumwa Semi-Weekly Courier," Tuesday, August 26, 1902, Page 7: "Licenses were granted Saturday by the clerk of the district court for the marriage of...John Hetherington, aged 52 years, to Mrs. Katie McMillian, age 28 years, both of Foster. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," Friday, April 3, 1931, Page 17: MRS. M. HEATHERINGTON. Mrs. Mary A. Heatherington, 82 years old, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D.D. Keltner, 707 Glenwood avenue, Thursday afternoon at 4:05. She is survived by two sons, Fred Hetherington of Ottumwa and Frank of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Keltner and Mrs. Alice Crawford, both of Ottumwa and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Keltner, 707 Glenwood avenue. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Roy C. Leeds, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be made in the Shaul cemetery. Friends may call at the Johnson funeral chapel until 10 o'clock, Saturday morning when the body will be removed to the Keltner residence.
