Officer, wife of William P. Officer, died at Grand Island, Neb., yesterday morning at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Officer, accompanied by her husband, went to Hot Springs, S. D., for her health some time ago. She took a severe cold and her condition became so critical that it was decided best to have her return home. Her death occurred on the homeward journey. The remains arrived last night and the funeral services will be held at 4:30 this afternoon at the family residence, 533 Willow avenue. The interment will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. Mrs. Officer was formerly Miss Mary Damon. She was born and raised in Council Bluffs. She leaves a husband and one child, a little boy between 2 and __ months old. +++ Omaha Daily Bee, NE, Tuesday, September 20, 1898, pg. 8, cols. 2-3 Death of Mrs. M. P. Officer. A telegram was received here yesterday morning announcing the death of Mrs. William P. Officer at Grand Island, Neb, She had been suffering from consumption for several years and a short time ago went to Hot Springs in the hope of benefiting her health. A few days ago she contacted a severe cold and her condition became so critical that it was decided to have her return home, but she passed away before reaching here. Mrs. Oliver was 31 years of age, and was born and reared in Council Bluffs, before her marriage being known as Miss Mary A. Damon. She leaves a husband and a young son. The remains arrived last evening and were taken to the family residence at 3533 Willow avenue, from where the funeral will be held this afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. Interment will be in Walnut Hill cemetery. +++ After Mary Damon Officer passed away leaving a young son, only aged 2 years, William's older brother, Charles and his wife, Margaret stepped in to help care for the little nephew, Frank William Officer.
