Ball in Chadron, Nebraska on February 3, 1918, aged 81 years, 10 months, 9 days. At the age of 16 years she, with her widowed mother, moved to the state of Wisconsin. Here her marraige to Jas. Britton occurred in 1853; from Wisconsin they moved to Indiana and after two years residence there came on west to Iowa, later to eastern Nebraska and thirty three years ago they came to Dawes county and homesteaded near where the Bethel M.E. church now stands. Mr. Brittons death occurred seven years ago. Mrs. Britton was one of the old settlers of this county and was well and favorably known. From her youth she possessed a splendid Christian character and was very prominent in the church activities of the Bethel Methodist church. The funeral service was conducted from this church in the presence of fifty members of her family and a large number of the friends of the community which feel a deep sense of loss in her departure. Her six children are all living and of the three sons and three daughters all reside in Dawes County except one son who resides in the state of Idaho. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday February 5th by Rev. Newland, pastor of the Chadron Methodist church. Thus passes another of Dawes county's early and honored citizens. Mrs. Britton has spent most of her time since her husband's death, with her daughters and was spending the winter with Mrs. J.I. Ball of this city. The kind old lady made many warm friends here in Chadron who will grieve at her departure, but rejoice that she was spared a long illness and permitted to go without great suffering. After but a few hours illness she fell asleep to awaken in the better world. A life well lived, was hers, and one of great hardships in the early days of pioneering. But hers was a valiant spirit and she lived to see great changes and to die in comfort. Mrs. Britton has living seventy-five direct descents, fifty four of whom were at her funeral which was attended by people from miles around to pay their last respects to one of the first to start life in the Ash Creek country. The Bethel church from which the funeral was held was built many years ago by the pioneers. Her husband donated the lumber from his saw mill and surveyed the ground for the site. All the old settlers helping in the erection of the church. Her sons and daughters are J.W. (John Wallace)Britton, J.C.(James Charles) Britton and Mrs. C.L.(Charles Levi & Jane Lucetta) Richardson of Ash Creek, Mrs. C.E.(Charles Everett & Mary Elizabeth) Ball of Crawford, Mrs. J.I.(James Ira & Isabelle) Ball of Chadron and G.W.(George William) Britton of Idaho. All were present at the funeral except the last named.
