Read More	OBITUARY Mary Ann Bray, daughter of John and Ascenith Bray, was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, April 27, 1848 and departed this life February 23, 1933, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 26 days. When she was 6 years old she migrated with her parents to Iowa and located west of Udell where she still lived at the time of her death. At the age of 18 yrs. she joined the Methodist church and was a willing worker. Later she joined the Baptist church and was a very earnest worker in the building up of a Christian community. On August 2, 1868 she was united in marriage to Conrad Angst, who preceded her in death April 13, 1925. No children were born to this union, but a foster son, Charles Angst, who resides in Oklahoma, was at her bedside during her sickness. He was taken into their home when a baby. Those left to mourn their loss besides Charles Angst, are nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Miller Funeral home in Centerville, Feb. 25, the Rev. Orlando Ogden, of Unionville, Ia. officiating. Burial at Denny cemetery, beside her husband. Belonging to the early pioneers, perhaps it would be interesting to relate the fact which prompted her migration to Iowa. In the county where she lived there (were) Wesleyan ministers, sent there by the conference of Ohio, built up a large membership in several different communities. The slave holders of her community were much opposed to the docrine of these anti-slavery ministers. These slave holders formed a mob and threatened violence to the anti-slavery believers, especially to A. B. Gardner, grandfather to Mrs. Angst because he allowed the ministers to make his home their stopping place. Acting upon the advice of one of the ministers who believed this war between the North and South was inevitable, the Brays loaded their belongings into covered wagons and started for Iowa. Thus began the migration which built up the community of worthy and respected citizens between Udell and Moravia. Her deceased husband was a native of Switzerland and came to Iowa when a small boy. The text used by Rev. Ogden was chosen by Mrs. Angst, which was Luke 12-40 "Be Ye therefore ready also for the Son of God cometh at an hour when ye think not." Music for the services was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Caylor, Mrs. Guy Streepy and Delta Longley, with Mrs. Carl Buckingham at the piano. Pall bearers were W. E. Spring, C. E. Phillips, Ora Powell, Harry Wilkinson, Robert White and Delbert Ullrick.
