Cedar Rapids Gazette - Friday, January 29, 1937 - WILTON JUNCTION — Mrs. Mary Ayres, 79, widow of Peter L. Ayres and lifelong resident of this community, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Paul Wacker, in Davenport. Mrs. Ayres was born at Lime City, Cedar county, Feb. 9, 1857, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Daut, prominent pioneers of this locality. On Feb. 6, 1880 she was married to Peter L. Ayres and they made their home for many years on a farm, moving here eighteen years ago. Mr. Ayres died in 1925. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Emmett Jordan of Tipton, Mrs. Rudolph Sebelien of Wilton Junction, Mrs. Paul Wacker of Davenport; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Peter Daut of Wilton Junction; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Lang of Muscatine, Miss Kate Daut and Mrs. George Nicolaus, both of Wilton Junction. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the home of Mrs. Sebelien in Wilton, with the Rev. H.A. Kossaek of Arlington Heights, Ill., in charge. Burial will be in the Moneka cemetery, Cedar county. Mrs. Ayres was a member of the Church of God at Moneka for many years. A TOPICAL HISTORY of CEDAR COUNTY, IOWA 1910 - .. It was on the 5th of February, 1880, that Mr. Ayres was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Daut, a daughter of Peter and Rose (Snell) Daut, early settlers of Cedar county. Her father was born in Germany in 1822 and when a young man he came to the United States, settling in Pennsylvania, where he was married to Rose Snell, also a native of Germany. After his marriage he ran a bakery for a few years in St. Louis, Missouri, but removed to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1853, and farmed for many years in Sugar Creek township. His death occurred in May, 1903, and the mother of Mrs. Ayres passed away in March, 1900. They were the parents of ten children. ...
